Hey guys!! We’ve got some really good stuff to share with you! International multiple award winning & very talented wedding photographers – Ryan Schembri, Jessica Schembri & Martin Schembri will be flying in all the way from Sydney from 3-5 May 2010 to deliver an intensive 3 day workshop! This 3-day workshop is a must go for all aspiring photographers or even veteran photographers with the thirst to learn & improve further! Definitely a great opportunity not to be missed, and we’re speaking based on our own personal experience when we flew to Sydney last year just to attend this amazing workshop! You guys are lucky because you get to scrimp on the airfare and hotel accommodation since this time round the workshop would be held in Singapore at Grand Hyatt! So hope to see you guys there ya? Limited slots available as they’re keeping the group small and compact so participants will have more time and opportunities for hands-on + one to one critique/ Q&A session.

I know quite a number of you have been trying to email Ryan via his email at ryan@xsight.com.au. If you haven’t already received a reply, do forward the email to info@ryanschembri.com.

.

.

Nonetheless here are some of Ryan’s works which I’d like to share with you guys, all of them are taken from his website at www.ryanschembri.com;

I would really really love to share all of their wedding images here, but there’s simply too many of them! So visit Ryan Schembri’s Website and Martin Schembri’s Website for more breathtaking images!

 .

.

I also tried but couldn’t embed a video which I would like to share. It’s actually a video of the happenings during the few days Raymond and I spent in Sydney last year for the Martin & Ryan Sydney workshop. Of course Jessica was there as well modelling for us in her beautiful actual wedding gown(she was really sweet & professional!!), teaching us on the workflow and post processing techniques. It was really really intensive, so I would advise you to have enough sleep each day so that you can focus better during the workshop. I’m serious!!

Follow the URL to watch the Video on the Sydney workshop on Youtube!!

I’ll probably share a few images taken from the Sydney trip for the next entry. :)

.

.

Anyway, can’t wait to meet the talented Trio real soon!!! And dear readers, please say hi to us if you see us there at the workshop too!! Cheers! =D

Matthew & Melissa

*Clears cob web* Raymond Phang Photography would like to apologise to our dear readers and followers of this blog! It’s been way too long since our last wedding photography related entry! Raymond has been busy with his photoshoots and on his constantly “learning program” where he spends time reading up on latest photography and lighting techniques, reading up on tutorials and stuffs like that. Other times when he’s not doing the few above mentioned, he’ll be out running errands such as delivering DVDs of images, posting out snail mails, collecting albums, shopping to stock up our supplies for our studio etc.

Susulini (a.k.a Susu) has more or less settled down with Raymond Phang Photography. Feeding our grossmits (Hermit crabs), disturbing Baileys our Mascot chihuahua, raiding the fridge (she actually only raid the drinks and not the sinful food like chocolates!)! Susu not only does the editing, sometimes when we have pre-wedding shoots, she’ll tag along and help us out with the lightings and stuffs. She’s a straight forward person with a unique personality. Sometimes when she gets too carried away, she tends to forget about stuffs like formalities & manners, so please do pardon her if she has ever offended anyone of you ya? :)

As for meeeeeeee… I’m still vertically challenged (which I think will be the case forever), and horizontally empowered!! In fact, I’m getting more and more empowered! I attribute the cause to my occupation hazard. Irregular meals, super gigantic meals, and after all the sinful meals, I slam my fatty ass on the chair and grow roots infront of the monitor. :(

I’ve actually proposed an idea to my Boss – exercise at least once a week, sleep before 12 midnight, or the very least walk the dog for 30 minutes after a meal. My Boss liked the idea! Initially we followed the plan, but after 2-3 days, everybody seemed suffer from amnesia, they actually forgot about my plan. *Shakes head*

Nonetheless I hope Year 2010 have been good for everyone of you so far! :)

Here’s some images to share from Matthew & Melissa’s wedding! We met the couple quite some time back at TCC when we haven’t got our current studio yet, and I had quite a deep impression because TCC actually black out on that day and we had to walk to another restaurant to do our meet up. I remember we chatted not only about the wedding, but also on HTC phones. Hahaha! Perhaps because Melissa is an artist (she plays and teaches the Piano!!), so they’re more spontaneous in making decisions and “fearless” about doing what they really want. :)

They had two day wedding celebration, but we only managed to cover one of the days since Raymond had another shoot for their first day. We’re really glad that the couple chose us to photograph their wedding day, and after looking through the images, it makes me even more certain to have a wedding celebration like theirs! One which is super fun filled, one which is arranged specially for themselves and close friends to enjoy, instead of the typical dinner banquet at night where couples usually are clueless about 70-80% of the guests attending!! So a two day wedding would be perfect! Day 1 for family with all the traditional rituals and ceremonies to go through, Day 2 to let your hair loose and party like crazy with your friends!! :D

Enough of my naggy wordings, enjoy the images! :)

The couple decided on an outdoor beach wedding theme where they had their solemnisation ceremony, and thankfully they were blessed with good weather that day! :)

Very Club Med feel… Hahaha!

Afterwhich it’s the must have “Toss the hand bouquet” time! Guess who caught it!

Raymond Phang Photography - Actual Day Wedding Photographer

So unfair since Matthew’s status has already upgraded to Married few moments ago, so they had a Toss the bouquet again, this time without Matthew!

Raymond Phang Photography - Actual Day Wedding Photographer

I love the series from their wedding images because there’s a lot of big big smiles, laughters, and I could actually feel the joy and happiness from the images even though I wasn’t present at the wedding. :)

Having some on stage games… Hehehe…

I wonder what foodie did the friends asked Matthew to eat, but it looks like yummy satay to me!

Raymond Phang Photography - Actual Day Wedding Photographer

Hmm… Maybe not? Wait, are these the evil sisters we usually see during the gatecrashing session  or are these angels??

Raymond Phang Photography - Actual Day Wedding Photographer

I wish I was there to witness everything cos the images make me want to know what was happening! That’s why I say Raymond is really lucky cos he not only witnessed all the Love and happy marriages during various wedding shoots, he also got to do what he love doing the most!

Then it was time to let the hair loose and have fun dancing!!

Raymond Phang Photography - Actual Day Wedding Photographer

You really don’t have to care too much about what other people think of you, whether the folks or other random strangers would think what you’re doing is pretty shameful in their eyes. I’ve heard of couples being “scolded” by their parents right after their actual day wedding banquet ends, simply because the couple removed Sharks Fin from the course and it made the parents “lose face” because other uncles and aunties complained about it, saying nasty things like “got money hold banquet at this hotel, no money treat sharks fin” even though they replaced it with individual servings of gigantic abalone for every guests. But they cannot understand how their children felt as divers and lovers of the waters, the environment and the sea creatures.

I’ve also heard of couples absolutely detesting taking the the table to table shots and faking a smile. They actually wanted to do away with the whole banquet and have an intimate dinner/luncheon with only close friends and immediate family members but couldn’t because of the parents.  I’ve heard of couples working with too many restrictions because their parents didn’t like it. No black gown, no black theme for the banquet ballroom, must wear the traditional kua and no modern cheongsam and blablablablabla.

It’s a good thing that you’re still keeping the tradition, it’s also a very good thing that you respect your parents’ wishes because you want to be filial to them. Personally I feel that the wedding is pretty much like a show. It’s the marriage that matters. Although your Actual Day is a once in a lifetime thingy,  it’s your decision whether you’d like to have it your way, or have it their way. I agree that holding the wedding over two days will really burn a much bigger hole in your pocket. So maybe it’s a good time to save up lots lots now! And ultimately it all depends on whether you’d like your Actual Day to be a grand affair for show, or to keep it small but meaningful and purposeful. :)

Congratulations once again to Matthew and Melissa on their marriage! It takes a lot to pop the question and even more to say “I Do”. I’m glad you guys have made it, and all the best to you guys as you embark on a new journey of life together as husband and wife! :)

A session with Susulini

Happy New Year!! For some people, the new year brings new hope. But for others, the new year is just a continuation of of the previous year. When I was screaming in delight while watching the fireworks bursting high up in the skies, I felt hopeful. Somehow the fireworks seemed to bring along with it fresh bursts of hope. Felt so encouraging and motivated for a moment. Sadly after the “show” has ended, there’s nothing left but clouds of smoke, and it smacked me back to reality. The new year is just a continuation of the previous year. Nothing’s new. What about you?  :)

Anyway, some picture to share! Took them briefly when we went hunting on a gloomy cloudy drizzling day. But it was really fun though! :)

The obscene pose.

Susu’s version of superman and ultrman.

We have some Hermit Crabs over at our studio, and susu enjoys disturbing them. Guess she’s trying to be like the hermit when she puts on this very dusty and dirty cone!

I was supposed to kiss her, but did not! So embarrasing!

Supposed to do a sneak attack on Susu, but failed terribly.

… …

Fuwah! Kungfu kick! Will slowly improvise k. Straighten the left leg and kicking the right leg way above my head!

.

.

Raymond always say when people are in love, they feel happy and so they eat more than usual. Believe it or not, Raymond and I have both gained at least 15KG since we met each other. Like all couples, we have our fair share of squabbles, went through the rough patches and sweet adventures together. But at the end of the day we both know how we love and feel for each other, and I guess that’s what glues us together all these years. The 5 seconds of action to re-think of the very reason what made us love each other really helps to chase away the squabbling monsters. So we should never take today’s squabble to the next day, and I think that’s very important for all couples too! :)

Evidence of that extra 15kg! Yi Yor and Xiao Yi Yor said these are skin… I beg to differ! FATS!

Raymond’s turn! MUWAHAHAHAHAHA!!

We actually don’t have a lot of time to eat, so how did the weight gain happened right? Guess cos of the very irregular meal intakes and unhealthy lifestyle? Sometimes we skip breakfast, lunch and dinner altogether cos of work, and then we make it all up by having very late night supper! We practically swallow and gobble our food like giant monsters, sometimes we were too hungry to chew properly. So… I guess that explains the major part for the weight gain. =_=”

.

.

We attempted one kissing picture the other night when I was too tired to continue with the album layout. So I took a few minutes’ time to disturb him, wondering how will our kissing pictures turned out to be like when it’s our turn to ring the wedding bell. This is how it’ll look like!! Snapped it using his phone!

Or even this! Nice right!? I also attempted to do my hair nicely, but got frustrated cos I thought it’s a waste of time, so I simply braided it from the front. Hehehe.

.

.

Okie, now, some real wedding pictures to share!! I picked a few from different weddings which I really like. Hehe. Enjoy! :)

I like how the balloons hide away half of their faces, adding the element of a supposedly mysterious suspense. But unexpectedly the couple actually stuck out their tongues, which I thought was really awesomely cute! See how the colors and elements adds up to create that feeling of fun and cheekiness? I think it’s pretty cute and it just brings out the couple’s personality which I find is really meaningful! Cos personally I feel that “pre-wedding” photoshoots are most of the time about posing and creating aesthetically pleasing images, but it lacks the meaning of the couple’s love and relationship. I guess different people have their own ideals and perspective. Some might prefer meaningful images, and for some, aesthetically pleasing images! Lucky for couples, there’s a mixture of professional wedding photographers around to cater to your different needs. :)

Can’t really explain for this one, but the backview of the couple works for me for this. Somehow I feel this image has a pretty strong feel of the couple as two distinct individuals, and I can even feel their personality from this image. Some people might have noticed a reflection of another person in the image. This was actually taken on an Actual Day Wedding, and I thought it looked pretty good! Not exactly the most aesthetically pleasing image, but good enough for me. :)

Again, the same couple on their actual day. I thought it looked pretty refreshing and I find the idea of this image pretty romantic too. One couple, two individuals, Two windows, One vision.  That’s the way it should be! :)

Aother of my favourite! I like the overall feel of this image. There’s another one with a different cropping where the vines are actually centralised which Raymond liked, but I very much prefer this one!! Just felt that everything falls into place nicely for this one, and I like the mood of them being totally absorbed into their own little world without any cares or restriction. Very fresh colours, with a soft gentle mood. I like! :)

.

.

Tons of other backlogs, and we’re all trying very hard to clear them as soon as we can without sacrificing on the quality. Susu has been really diligent working on the images together with us as well, so do bear with us a little longer k? Cheers!! :)

Concluding Year 2009… or not?

I was thinking of updating an entry to conclude Year 2009 for Raymond and I, but come to think of it, 365 days are all filled with work and more work. The only time we get to go dating is when we meet up with couples-turned-friends for dinner or movies!

Actually I feel really blessed to have known them, especially couples like Guan Lim & Jeslin, Jack & Grace, Michelle & Sam, Desmond & Jolene, Jonald & Yutong, Andrew & Clarice, Richard & Wendy, Eddie & Aileen, Max & Mui Hui, Kok Meng & Cassie, Edwin & Eunice and a whoooooooooooooooooooolesome lotssssssssssssssssss moreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!! In fact we love them all for inviting us to be part of the special team for their biggest day, and also very appreciative that they engaged us because they genuinely love our works and not because we’re “spares”. Much more than that, we’re really really happy that we get to take the relationship further from being just clients, to friends and very good friends! So looking forward to Year 2010, and hopefully meet more interesting characters!! :D

Year 2009 was pretty fruitful with the achievements Raymond bagged from the [AG]WPJA – Artistic Guild of the Wedding Photojournalist Association, the MPA – Masters Photographer Association, establishment of the Wedding Photographers Guild, collaboration with the preservation of monument board and CDL in producing the book – Resonance Songs of our Forefathers, addition of Susulini the DI artist to our family, and lots lots more! Learnt a lot of things, widened our horizons a bit with the travellings and attending the Schembri workshops in Sydney, plucking enough courage to drive overnight from Sydney to Gold Coast within a day etc!

Come to think of it, even though Year 2009 has been 365 days of work for us, it’s actually still pretty colourful! :D

Now for my Year 2010 resolution: Stop work at 12 midnight, start work at 7am, find one activity to do together with Raymond (we’re pretty lifeless cos of work!), spend more time with family & friends, eat more fruits! That’s all for now! Maybe i’ll get susulini and Raymond to share some day!

Okie now, here’s some images from my personal snap snaps collection. Hehe.

I actually fed the machine with 2 dollars and out came this love struck looking froggie… I got this because Raymond was mad at me for some reason which I cannot remember. So next morning I went over to his place, outlined the shape of my hands and fingers, cut and folded them in such a way that the middle finger is pointing out, stuck it to the body of the frog and pinned the whole thing to his mirror!

I find it funny cos the whole idea of it is funny to me, and at the same time it gets to express my anger and frustration too… Oh well, things I do to “spice up” our relationship. :p

Bought this during our furniture hunting at IKEA few months back. Raymond likes it a lot.

Sometimes he’s really sweet cos he actually bothers to take time off work and divert his attention to me by doing little things like sewing my buttons back for me when it dropped off. :D

Interesting things we spotted together..

Having late night supper… it’s actually lunch + dinner combined in the middle of the night after 12 midnight!

Sharing a biiiiig mug of hot chocolate..

Yesterday I spent half the day accompanying my friend Shahidah. I call her Shark He Duck, or Duck for short.

I know I have a lot of emails to reply, but Duck is having some personal problems and she needed someone to talk to…

Raymond and I puts relationship above everything else, so instead of sitting down replying emails while she talk and share her problems, I felt that someone who needs a listening ear deserves all the attention…

Tried to cheer her up so I suggested snapping pictures!

Glad it made her smile… :)

SUCH AN OBSCENE PICTURE!

Duck and I knew each other since 1997, and she’s like one of my best friend… such a coincidence we’re both wearing checkered top!

Then I suggested playing with faces!

A picture of the naked face…

A picture of the painted face!

Duck has a big eyering, floral murals, bird (which I cannot tell!), stitched up wound, sun, and a Mr Pringles look alike face.

I had two uneven eyebrows, some wrinkles on top, double eyelid, arrow love, whiskers, pink nose, mustache, moles and eyebags.

This image is damn cool! Looked like I had fake teeth!!

That’s duck’s frontal view!

.

.

.

.

And here’s two images to share from our piles of backlogs of wedding images!!

Taken on 3 November 2009 for Scott & Wee-Li for their outdoor pre-wedding. Susulini came with us on that day and assisted. Very happy that the images turned out to be pretty nice! Sweet and cheery, bright and pretty!! :D

Taken on 10 November 2009 for Qi Wei & Hsiao Hui’s outdoor pre-wedding. Susulini joined us too, and we had a yummy dinner of Botak Jones right after! Love this series as well, and we really think Hsiao Hui looks like Zhang Zi Yi from certain angles! :D

We have a whole lot of other backlogs to share, some of which are already completed long ago. Do keep a lookout for more updates ya? Back to emails! Merry Christmas to all!! :)

Morrison & Rachel’s actual day wedding – 2 & 3 August 09

Hi guys!! A piece of news to share, Raymond has been awarded the Licentiate Master Photographer title by the prestigious Master Photographers Association (The MPA).  MPA is the only organisation in UK formed exclusively for full time qualified professional photographers. A short excerpt from the MPA website on what MPA is about;

What is the Master Photographers Association?

The MPA is the premier professional organisation for Wedding, Portrait and Commercial Master Photographers. If you are looking for a wedding, portrait, or commercial photographer in your area, then one of our 1,600 fully qualified members will assure you of the highest professional service.

All qualified members adhere to a strict Code of Conduct and have undergone qualification to at least Licentiate standard. Established in 1952, the MPA is unique in that it only allows full-time professional photographers to remain in membership. Each must have undergone a rigorous assessment of their work – and only then do they appear in our Online Directory.

Really got to hand it to Raymond for bagging this title cos he practically had no time to sit down and properly prepare his prints as much as he wanted to. Imagine he only printed out his works the very morning of the judging day itself, all flustered and chop chop. Luckily he managed to be at the judging session in time although he was one of the very last few candidates. These few weeks have been nothing but hell, churning the images, album layout, setting up of the computer system to make it as stable as possible so that our wedding files are all safe & secure. We desperately need sleep man.

Good thing is, we actually learnt a lot of lesson from this event. We will try to make improvements one step at a time, and hopefully get to see some positive changes not only in our works, but also on our lives. Once again, congratulations to all fellow photographers, and let’s all work harder to produce even better works for all our couples!  :D

That aside, here are some of the few images from Morrion and Rachel’s actual day wedding, which was held in August over a span of 2 days!! Enjoy!! :)
