Actual Day Wedding: Main photographer vs Second photographer

ALOHA FROM HAWAII!!! . . . . . . not!

Here’s a blog post with an example of how 2 photographers document a wedding. Its not that one photographer can’t do the job, its just that sometimes a photographer can’t split him/herself into two.

Imagine this scenario, the bride’s parents want a group shot with some friends and the groom is having a toast with a group of friends…WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?! Theres also so many ways to shoot a scene and with two photographers, you get 2 different perspectives. In addition, there are times when I like to take couples out for mini shoots here and there and normally if I happen to see nice spots, the guests would be left to dine and chat, WITH NO ONE AROUND TO CAPTURE THEIR UNGLAM MOMENTS for that period of time…… WHAT EVER ARE WE GOING TO DO?! ……again

Ok ok,I shall cut all the talking and start showing some examples.   And for Pam + Ruzaiman’s wedding, my partner in crime is Ms SURINE.

Oh and by the way, Im Ben and I’m gonna pass the keyboard over to Susu, who’s gonna bore you all to tears now with her long windedness.

P.s: while typing this little blog entry, Ms SURINE actually wailed while watching Tong Hua. here’s the youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLsNzzQ6vYI
*Ben shove keyboard to Surine*

I wanted to delete the P.S sentence above me but unfortunately Sir Ben forbade me from doing so. D: *sniffles and dabs nose like the emo that she is* So yep! Its now Sulin here commandeering the keyboard before Ben decides to write more scandalous stuff about me. 😛 Pam & Ruzaiman’s wedding was simply a blast to document, it was a nice change of scene compared to the chinese weddings that we usually document. The customs, the ceremony and the traditional costumes; fascinating, sacred and above all, gorgeous. From the morning preparations to the solemnisation ceremony and the little itty bitty details in between, here’s a series of images taken by Ben and I; same location, but different perspectives. We hope that you’ll enjoy the series!

Cough cough… Finally this blog is alive again.. and this time with three person contributing to one entry, not just one. Haha! Anyway, many couples have been asking me whether is it necessary to engage a second photographer for their wedding. I’d say it would be good for an all rounded coverage of the wedding and for the best of both worlds.

It is highly advisable to engage a second photographer if you are expecting a lot of guests at your wedding, or if you and your parents have different level of understanding when it comes to “good photography”. Some of the elders’ idea of a good picture is one which shows the full frontal view of the subject looking straight into the camera. But nowadays people are so exposed to Photography (most own a DSLR and shoot occasionally), they start to appreciate abstract images which might only show the lips of the groom in black and white, without the eyes/nose…

To please the elders and do yourself, a second photographer can save you the headaches and prevent your folks from throwing ping pong balls at you for engaging such a “lousy” photographer who shoots dark dark images, cannot see face, don’t know why you shoot the backview, how come never take picture of me drinking the tea etc. Phew! Long sentence, but that’s about it. The second photographer can please your folks by capturing all the standard bright bright see face shots so that the main photographer you engage can roam around capturing all the raw candid emotional/natural shots which you like. Or even at the wedding banquet when you are mingling with your colleagues at one table while your other half is having group hugs at the other corner. The photographer cannot split himself/herself into two, so having two photographers here will help a lot.

Perfect!

As what Susu mentioned, same location but different perspectives. Here’s what they see at the same wedding with Ben Chan as the main photographer and Sulin Lee as the second photographer. Cheers! 🙂

Here’s the family photo that any family will appreciate. It’s a parent’s proudest moment when their child finally gets married. So most family will have such a family picture framed up on a wall in their house.

Ben will capture some details shots of the gown, for example it’s the intricate collar design for Pam’s gown.

Here’s Ben with the close up of the group hug. We can see some happiness going on around here. But what’s mummy doing at the back?

Hope this short entry explains a little bit more on their respective roles. We’ll share more once we have the time. Right now we’re extremely busy clearing backlogs because we’re flying off to New Zealand for a month! As usual being the free spirit people, we don’t have any itinerary planned so we’ll be living like the nomads moving from place to place, staying longer at a spot we love or move on to the next once we have enough. Because of this we might have limited access to the Internet and hence there might be a delay in email reply. But for any important or urgent matter, feel free to call or text us at +65 8138 – 3397 ya?

Alternatively you can also visit our facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/raymondphangphotography for updates on our Journey in New Zealand… Just to see we’re still rolling around… Haha~ We’ll be back in May!! See you! 🙂

Peace,
